Exciting News! SCI’s Center for Successful Aging to Open Soon!

No matter what age we are, we want to have a life well lived.

The American population is steadily and quickly becoming dominated by older people, a phenomenon described as the “graying of America.” In less than two decades, the United States Census Bureau projects that adults 65 and older will outnumber children under age 18 for the first time in the country’s history, and by 2060, 24 percent of Americans will be in their golden years. In coastal Georgia, nearly 24 percent – more than one million – of the state’s residents are already age 65 and older, more than the entire population of some states.

At Senior Citizens, Inc., we’ll be ready.

This spring, older adults in the Savannah area will have a better place for accessing services they need, for fellowship, and for learning, thanks to the generosity of individuals, corporations, and foundations.

In partnership with West Construction Company, SCI began a $5.8 million renovation and expansion of the former Central of Georgia Railway Hospital in February 2019. This expansion – dubbed The Center for Successful Aging – will have the capacity to serve 20,000 older adults and their families in Chatham, Bryan, Effingham, and Liberty counties.

It will give the community:

  • A new Adult Day Health Center for people who require supervision during the day because of short- or long-term cognitive issues;
    • An expanded Learning Center for the hundreds of active adults interested in lifelong learning;
    • A second kitchen for our Meals on Wheels, SAGE home-delivered meals services, and catering; and
    • A multi-purpose space for up to 275 people for community events.

In short, The Center for Successful Aging will be a community beacon.

And here’s your chance to be a part of that new beacon of light for our community: for only $250, you can sponsor a chair in your name or the name of someone who is special to you, and your gift will be recognized on a beautiful plaque.

Deadline is Friday, March 20. For more information, click here or contact Anne Cordeiro at 912-236-0363 or email her at acordeiro@seniorcitizens-inc.org.
