We hope you join us for our 26th Annual Tourism Awards & Scholarship Dinner. The date for this event is Thursday, February 20, 2025. We are moving our annual awards gala back to its pre-COVID time slot in the first quarter of the year. Having our gala in its original time slot gives us the chance to celebrate our industry in the new Savannah Convention Center Governor’s Ballroom!
Nominations for awards are officially open! Please take time to reflect on who stood out on your team this year. Our awards and scholarship dinner serves as an opportunity to show your support and appreciation for the work of your team!
If you have a team member in mind you would like to nominate, please visit our Tourism Awards Nominations webpage. We are looking for nominees for our Service Star Awards and Service Leader Award.
The Service Star Awards recognize tourism and hospitality industry employees who consistently demonstrate exemplary job performance and go above and beyond the call of duty as they service guests. Nominees can include front desk employees and concierges, valets and bellhops, housekeepers, servers, and tour guides. Support staff, which includes ‘back-of-house’ positions such as dishwashers, laundry attendants, and maintenance can also be nominated.
The Service Leader Award recognizes a managerial level employee who exhibits phenomenal service toward guests, as well as exemplary leadership toward his or her colleagues.
Scholarship Application submissions for current and prospective college students who are studying or are planning to study and pursue careers in the tourism, culinary, and hospitality arts are also open. If you know a student, or students fitting this description, please encourage them to apply for the TLC scholarship.
The TLC scholarship has awarded more than $115,000 to deserving students who are pursuing a career in our thriving tourism community. Awards have ranged from $500 to $5000 per student.
The deadline for service nominations and scholarship applications is Friday, January 17, 2025. Applications and nominations received after the deadline will not be considered for review.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2024 – THURSDAY, MAY 22, 2025
Ships of the Sea will unveil Sea of Ink: Savannah Maritime Tattoos, an extraordinary exhibit showcasing the art and cultural significance of tattoos. Featuring more than a dozen Savannah-area tattoo artists and over 30 maritime tattoo collectors, Sea of Ink highlights tattoos as a meaningful art form and cultural movement.
With one-third of American adults having at least one tattoo, this visual language is rich for exploration. Sea of Ink presents the tattoo not just as body art, but as a powerful instrument for storytelling. Tattoos tell stories that often are deeply meaningful to the collector, and are a result of an artistic understanding between the tattoo creator and the collector.
Experience the Exhibit:
Cultural Insight: Explore tattooing as a visual language and art form.
Artistic Appreciation: Admire the intricate designs and craftsmanship.
Stories: Learn about Savannah’s history of maritime tattooing.

Savannah-based photographers Thomas Sanders and Mike Schalk bring the exhibit to life:

Telfair Museums presents a solo exhibition of iconic digital art by Jim Campbell (b. 1956), whose light-based works explore the limits of human perception. Holding degrees in electrical engineering and mathematics from MIT, along with patents for his work in development of high-definition video, Campbell is widely known for his low-resolution moving images created by arrays of LEDS. This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to the San Francisco-based artist’s works in the Southeast and will coincide with Telfair’s 2025 PULSE Art Technology Festival.

“Surroundings, Daydreaming in the Chaos” by Lisa D. Watson is an artistic journey that deepens our understanding of structures, landscapes, and the narratives of all things—animal, mineral, or plant—that call the land home and strive to safeguard wild spaces in their unique settings. Watson utilizes mixed-media collage, paintings, installations, and ceramic sculpture to portray her perceptions. Lesser-known places are depicted in the exhibit which are infused with daydreams of achieving balance between man-made infrastructure and the wilderness. These imaginative transformations convey a longing for environmental harmony and a vision for positive change.

“Old Chan Magic: Chinese Roots, Southern Branches,” a new exhibit curated by Davenport House Museum Executive Director Danielle Hodes and featuring a wide range of historic photography, will open at Historic Savannah Foundation’s Murray C. Perlman and Wayne C. Spear Preservation Center, located at 323 E. Broughton St., on Thursday, January 16 and run through May 2025.
The exhibit shares the fascinating story of the Chan family who lived in the iconic 1820 home when it operated as a tenement in the early 20th century, before the Davenport House was saved from demolition and renovated as a 19th-century house museum. “Old Chan Magic: Chinese Roots, Southern Branches” expands the narrative at the Davenport House, marking the first exhibition that has focused on the period in the 20th century when the home operated as a tenement building.
“Old Chan Magic” will explore the life and legacy of the Chan family in Savannah in the early 1900s. This exhibition features rare photographs and stories that reveal the daily lives of the Chan family, their business endeavors and their experience as part of a growing Chinese-American community in the South in the early 20th century. Through these images, visitors will discover a unique perspective on the intersection of Chinese heritage and Southern identity during a pivotal time in Savannah’s history.
In 1889, Robert Chung Chan became one of Savannah’s first Chinese immigrants. Robert and his wife, Annie, lived in the Davenport House from 1901 to 1902 while operating a Chinese laundry in what is now the Historic Kennedy Pharmacy. Their story embodies the broader experience of early Chinese immigrants in America while uniquely reflecting Savannah’s cultural landscape, shaped in large part by Robert’s leadership, influence, and social connections.
The “Old Chan Magic: Chinese Roots, Southern Branches” exhibit will be on display from January 16 through May 2025. The exhibit is free and open to the public. To learn more, please visit davenporthousemuseum.org.

The Chatham County Health Department and Healthy Savannah are hosting a cervical cancer awareness and screening event on February 20. Eligible women can get cancer screenings and HPV vaccinations at no cost, and no appointment is required.
Almost all cervical cancers are preventable, but vaccination and early detection are crucial. Regular screenings like pap smears can detect precancerous lesions, giving women a chance to begin treatment early when survival rates are highest. Additionally, a vaccination against HPV helps to prevent infection with a virus that can lead to cervical cancer.
The cervical cancer awareness event will be held Thursday, February 20 from 8 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. at the Chatham County Health Department at 1395 Eisenhower Drive in Savannah. This is a walk-in event and no appointments are needed. However, anyone needing a cervical cancer screening should arrive by 5:30 to ensure there is time to be seen before the clinic ends.
Everyone 18 years of age and older must present an unexpired photo ID at check-in. Uninsured individuals will be able to receive services at no cost. Individuals with insurance will have no out-of-pocket costs for cervical cancer screenings or HPV vaccinations; however, they should present their insurance card at check-in to avoid problems/bills from their insurer later.
The cervical cancer screenings will be available to women 21-64 years of age and HPV vaccines will be available for people age 11 to 26. Anyone age 27 to 45 wanting the HPV vaccine should talk with a health care provider to determine if it’s appropriate for them.

In honor of what would have been Robert Altman’s 100th birthday, join us for a screening of one of the maverick filmmaker’s boldest genre experiments and most stunningly realized works. MCCABE & MRS. MILLER reimagines the western as an unorthodox dreamscape, following Warren Beatty and Julie Christie as two enterprising newcomers to a rough Pacific Northwest mining town who build a thriving gambling and prostitution empire—until their success attracts the ruthless gaze of the robber barons. With its deeply human, flawed characters, Vilmos Zsigmond’s evocative cinematography, an intricately constructed frontier town, Altman’s signature overlapping dialogue, and the haunting melodies of Leonard Cohen, this revisionist masterpiece revitalized and deglamorized the quintessential American genre.
An introduction by a SCAD faculty member precedes the screening.
Tickets, part of SCAD Cinema Circle: Goes West, are free for SCAD Card holders; $5 for students, seniors, and military; and $8 for the general public.
