Climb aboard the UGA Aquarium’s research vessel, the R/V Sea Dawg, for a trawl in Wassaw Sound! Participants will actively contribute to marine sampling efforts by working alongside marine educators to collect, sort, and identify a variety of marine organisms collected as part of the trawl. All data collected contributes to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ marine inventory record, supporting long-term monitoring of local species.
This program also introduces Trawl to Trash, an initiative aimed at preventing marine debris from entering coastal ecosystems. Participants will learn about the negative impacts of marine debris on wildlife and habitats and explore the use of Trawl to Trash bags, created from recycled shrimp nets, to collect and remove debris. Each participant will have the opportunity to construct their own bag to take home and use for collecting trash along Georgia’s coast.
Registration is required and includes admission to the UGA Aquarium. Children ages 10 and up are welcome but must be accompanied by a registered adult. Cost: $20.

Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum—an acclaimed museum dedicated to celebrating and preserving America’s maritime legacy—is delighted to present “Beyond the Plate: Sea and Sky,” an exciting new solo exhibition featuring nautical-inspired, mixed-media art by Rob Strati, from September 25, 2025 through April 12, 2026.
“Beyond the Plate” will showcase new work by one of America’s hottest contemporary artists. Strati has recently enjoyed sold-out exhibits at Duane Reed Gallery in St. Louis and FREMIN Gallery in New York and has sold work to top international art collectors in New York, London, Hong Kong, Dubai and beyond. Strati’s art incorporates broken porcelain plates that have been embellished and adorned with creative details. The exhibition features the artist’s latest bold, kinetic mixed-media works and limited-edition prints as well as an ambitious site-specific installation that will be suspended from the ceiling of the Ships of the Sea atrium.
Strati’s latest series was inspired by a porcelain plate from his wife’s late mother, which accidentally fell and broke into fragments. In order to preserve the shards of the shattered plate, and the memory of someone vitally important to both him and his wife, the artist began working on his “Fragmented” series, using pen and paper to “explore the possibilities of things broken and the stories that can evolve from the pieces left behind.”
Each piece of Strati’s art starts with the breaking of a porcelain plate and takes approximately two weeks to complete. Although the artist is rigorous about his creative process, he always allows space for spontaneous ideas to emerge from the fragments. Over time, he has learned important lessons about art and life by creating new works of art from broken shards.
Strati describes his work as a “mix of chaos and control” that is constantly evolving. He hopes his upcoming exhibition at Ships of the Sea will inspire visitors to think about time, creativity and beauty in fresh, new ways. All of the art in “Beyond the Plate” will be available for purchase, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum.
ABOUT ROBERT STRATI: Originally from Boston, Strati grew up in Columbus, Ohio and earned a B.A. in History of Art from Ohio State University. His art has been exhibited at leading international museums and art galleries and has been featured in The Art Newspaper, Whitehot Magazine, Reclaim, Beaux Arts, Sculpture Magazine, Vice and The Village Voice. Strati’s work and “Beyond the Plate” will also be featured in ARTS Southeast’s fall issue of IMPACT Magazine in October 2025.

The High in Atlanta presents the most comprehensive exhibition to date of original paintings and drawings made for more than a dozen of her children’s books, featuring more than 100 works, including several that have never previously been exhibited. SCAD Museum of Art:
Michi Meko ‘So Black and So Blue’
Michi Meko creates large-scale paintings that address and process “the African American experience of navigating public spaces, particularly in the American South, while remaining buoyant within them.” The artist’s powerful subject and impressive approach to making these works—on exhibit in Savannah – where brought about by a near-drowning, which shifted his perspective on how he exists in nature. While pursuits in the water or woods like fishing or hiking have historically been fraught for Black individuals, often restrictively codified as “white” spaces in the U.S., Meko’s exuberant art and passion for fly-fishing reclaim these nonurban sites, demonstrating that nature has always been a thriving source for Black creative expression.

ABOUT FORT MCALLISTER STATE HISTORIC PARK:
Located close to I-95 south of Savannah on the banks of the Ogeechee River, this scenic park showcases the best-preserved earthwork fortification of the Confederacy. The earthworks were attacked seven times by Union ironclads but did not fall until 1864—ending General William T. Sherman’s “March to the Sea.” Visitors can explore the grounds with cannons, a hot shot furnace, bombproof barracks, palisades and more, while a Civil War museum contains artifacts, a video and gift shop.
Nestled among giant live oaks, Spanish moss and salt marsh, this park is a beautiful location for camping, fishing, boating and picnicking. Seven cabins sit on stilts near the marsh, surrounded by palm trees and palmettos. The shaded campground is bordered by tidal Redbird Creek, a boat ramp, fishing dock and nature trail. A large picnic area offers river views and playgrounds, while another boat ramp provides access to the Ogeechee River.

Head back to mid-90s Los Angeles for Amy Heckerling’s “Clueless”—a whip-smart, endlessly quotable teen comedy that redefined the high school movie and cemented its place as a pop culture touchstone. Loosely inspired by Jane Austen’s Emma, the film follows Cher Horowitz (Alicia Silverstone in a career-defining role), a well-intentioned but fashion-obsessed Beverly Hills teen navigating love, friendship, and the mall with the breezy confidence of someone who knows her Alaïa from her Calvin. Bettys and Baldwins, roll with your homies to this screening that’s guaranteed to be more fun than a val party!
Celebrate the movie’s thirtieth anniversary with costume designer Mona May who will join us for a Q&A, sketch signing, and to discuss her upcoming book “The Fashion of Clueless.” Books will be available for pre-order at the event.
“The film would not have become the classic that it has without [Mona May’s] involvement. Her work was magic in ‘Clueless.’” –Alicia Silverstone
Tickets for the film are FREE for SCAD Card holders; $5 for students, seniors, and military; and $8 for the general public.
