Safe Shelter Marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month with Theme: “Imagine a World Without Violence”
October Events to Honor Victims, Raise Awareness, and Inspire Community Action in Savannah
SAFE Shelter, Savannah’s only dedicated domestic violence shelter and the second largest emergency shelter of its kind in Georgia, will host a series of events throughout October in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This year’s theme, “Imagine A World Without Violence,” calls on the community to reflect on the vision of a safer, healthier future while taking action to protect, prevent, and promote awareness.
Domestic violence affects families in every community, and the statistics remain sobering. SAFE Shelter provides refuge and hope for nearly 1,800 victims annually, including shelter for over 250 children each year. Their mission is clear: protect victims, prevent violence, and raise awareness about the devastating impact familial violence has on Savannah and beyond.

Community Call to Action
SAFE Shelter invites all Savannah residents to participate in these events, raise awareness, and support survivors by imagining—and working toward—a world without violence. Community involvement is critical to breaking the cycle of domestic violence.
“Domestic Violence Awareness Month is more than a series of events; it’s an opportunity for us to come together as a community, remember those we’ve lost, and take meaningful steps toward prevention and healing,” said Shannon Bates, Executive Director of SAFE Shelter. “By imagining a world without violence, we move closer to making that vision a reality.
