Turtle Shellebration!

Come “shellebrate” the turtles of the Georgia coast with a fun free event on Saturday, September 5 at the Gray’s Reef Ocean Discovery Center! Special guests from the Skidaway Audubon Diamondback Terrapin Rescue project will be joining us to talk about the work that they do to protect North America’s only salt marsh turtle. Meet live baby diamondback terrapins, celebrate the 2026 hatching season, and learn more about the incredible turtles on the coast of Georgia!

Trash to Treasure Sea Turtle Craft: Make your own turtle hatchling from a reclaimed egg carton

Sea Turtle Spotter Activity: Sea turtles are hiding all around Gray’s Reef! Can you find them all and correctly identify the species for the sanctuary scientists?

11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Special Guest Visit: Skidaway Audubon and the newly hatched terrapin babies from the Skidaway Audubon Diamondback Terrapin Rescue project will be making a guest appearance at the Ocean Discovery Center! Meet baby terrapins and learn about the work that Skidaway Audubon does to protect nesting turtles on Skidaway Island.
