Experience Duo Arpeggione in a thrilling cello and piano concert featuring some of the best works for this winning combination composed by Beethoven, Grieg, and Foote pure musical magic! Pianist Catherine Lan and cellist Claudio Jaffé, two internationally acclaimed artists, celebrate the cello and piano as equal partners, bringing music to life with passion, virtuosity, and seamless ensemble playing.
Lan and Jaffé formed Duo Arpeggione in 2017. Both artists bring extensive performance experience at the international level, having performed throughout the world, including major capitals such as London, Tokyo, Helsinki, Bangkok, Amsterdam, Tallinn, Buenos Aires, as well as multiple performances as guest soloist with orchestras. Both artists also have won prizes at various competitions. In addition to their performance experience, Lan and Jaffé hold teaching positions. Dr. Jaffé teaches at Palm Beach Atlantic University, in addition to being conductor of the Florida Youth Orchestra. He is principal cellist of the Palm Beach Symphony and Florida Grand Opera, as well as cellist with the Delray String Quartet. Dr. Lan serves on the faculty at Broward College and records for Centaur Records. She also is the Director of Chamber Music at South Florida Symphony.
Jaffé made his orchestral debut at the age of 11. He has won many international awards as a cellist. The New York Times described him as “an elegant and accomplished artist” of “taste, technique, musicianship and a contagious youthful enthusiasm.” Jaffé earned four degrees from Yale University, including doctor of musical arts. He studied in Master classes and special workshops with great masters of the cello including Yo-Yo Ma, Lynn Harrell, Paul Tortelier, Tokyo String Quartet, Janos Starker, Nathaniel Rosen, and Ralph Kirshbaum.
Lan, born in Taiwan and raised in Canada, is a world-touring classical concert pianist. She has been praised by critics as a pianist with “fluent technique, sensitive musicianship and a probing intellect.” Lan is a founding member of several duos including Duo Beaux Arts, Delray Piano Trio, Duo Formosa, Duo Lancaster and Atlantic Piano Trio. She received Bachelor of Music from University of British-Columbia, Master of Music from Indiana University (Bloomington), and Doctor of Musical Arts from University of Miami.
