Event Details

Join the SCAD Museum of Art’s Evans Center for African American Studies as we welcome dance educators and percussionists for the AileyDance for Active Aging workshop. This thoughtfully designed, 60-minute dance experience for older adults supports physical conditioning, strength, flexibility, and balance, while stimulating cognitive function and fostering artistic expression. No prior experience is necessary. We welcome older adults and participants of all abilities, including those with wheelchairs, canes, or walkers. Chairs are provided for all.

Bringing to life renowned founder Alvin Ailey’s enduring belief that “dance is for everybody,” the workshop is led by two teaching artists who demonstrate the movements both seated and standing, ensuring everyone can fully participate. Class begins with a gentle, progressive warmup followed by learned dance phrases in a variety of styles, including adapted excerpts of Ailey’s masterwork, ‘Revelations.’

RSVP to Andreia Wardlaw at awardlaw@scad.edu. Include any special accommodations you may need in the email.
