This enduring ode to teendom from the sweet bard of youth, director John Hughes, might be celebrating its 40th year, but it remains as inextricably tied to the fabric of pop culture as ever. It’s the story of five teenagers (Molly Ringwald, Judd Nelson, Emilio Estevez, Ally Sheedy, and Anthony Michael Hall) who learn they may not be as different as they seem over the course of one fateful Saturday in the now-fabled halls of Shermer High School. With spontaneous dance parties, soul-baring breakthroughs, and the most epic fist pump ever put on celluloid, detention never seemed more awesome.
