Dear Maritime community,
Wednesday, February 4th, we are heading back to Cohen’s Retreat, We all know this place is awesome, so bring a friend, this upcoming event should prove to be spectacular.
The evenings food is brought to by the fine folks and new sponsor LiftOne.
Thank you so much for providing that for us.
As far as the giving part is concerned, each and every year our generous sponsors contribute funds to make the Maritime After Hours events possible. At the end of the year, any monies left over are donated to worthy causes within our maritime community.
On behalf of all those 2025 sponsors, this year’s recipients are:
Maritime Bethel Savannah under the leadership of John Houchens
Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum led by Executive Director Molly Carrott Taylor
Maritime Bethel Savannah is a 501c3 non-profit ministry focusing on the thousands of seafarers who call on the Port of Savannah each year. These men and women are away from home for up to 9 months at a time. Maritime Bethel and her volunteers want to be a “home away from home” providing a pastoral presence on board ships, a listening ear, and ways for seafarers to stay connected to family back home. Maritime Bethel also provides services important to seafarers such as transportation ashore, package delivery on board vessels, money transfers home to family, and a Center for Seafarers across from the Garden City Terminal. To borrow everyday language, their business is seafarers.
For more information regarding Maritime Bethel Savannah, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit, you can visit them online at: www.maritimebethelsavannah.com
Housed in the 1819 Greek Revival mansion built for William Scarbrough, a prominent shipping merchant and the first president of the Savannah Steamship Company, the Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum showcases a remarkable collection of ship models, paintings, and maritime antiques within the largest private gardens in Savannah’s historic district. A community partner and collaborator, Ships of the Sea brings in over 4,000 public school children for free tours of the house and garden as well as maritime-related STEAM activities in their classroom. Regular evening events animate the house and gardens all year round, including three free family days, a nighttime sound and light show throughout the garden, and exhibition openings in the house a few times a year.
Ships of the Sea has been a wonderful partner and host of many After Hours events. For more information about the museum, visit: www.shipsofthesea.org
