12junAll Day16Junior Achievement Summer CampThe JA Summer Camp is an engaging, hands-on experience that helps students ages 10-14 develop an understanding of basic business principles and the world of work ahead.

Event Details

Students will learn first-hand what it means to be a citizen of a community, how to get a job, and how to make wise financial decisions to achieve the future they want for themselves and their families.

DAY ONE: ECONOMIC FOUNDATIONS
Explore JA BizTown and learn about careers – even some like pilots and coders – that are interesting to them

Explain why banks are important and what they do

Find out what it takes to be an entrepreneur, and the characteristics of successful ones

Identify businesses that are important in an economy

DAY TWO: INNOVATION AND BRANDING
Find out what it means to be engaged in a community and be civically active

Explain how goods and services circulate as resources within an economy

Choose and incorporate innovative products into their business inventory to market and sell in coming days

Create and revise marketing plans for their business to include an e-commerce component

Evaluate other businesses’ marketing plans, offering tips for improvement

DAY THREE: BUSINESS MANAGEMENT
Be an employee at a business for the day

Run a business by advertising products, offering customer service, selling products, and paying invoices to other businesses

Be a consumer – shop at the various businesses and keep what they buy!

Participate in the democratic process by selecting a business for the Student Choice Award

DAY FOUR: FINANCIAL CAPABILITY
Identify what’s important to them – interests, skills and values

Have a better understanding of what kinds of careers interest them

Evaluate the risks and benefits of saving and investing, and learn about what role insurance plays in personal finances

Define taxes, explain their purpose, and understand how they affect income

Understand what it takes to manage a budget

DAY FIVE: FINANCE FUNDAY
Understand the connection between education path and future income

Compare and contrast the education requirements and income of various careers

Understand how credit history impacts their ability to make big purchases

Realize the importance of saving money and how to best save for their life scenarios

Create a successful monthly budget and make choices that help them understand needs vs. wants
