Event Details

Rewind to the mid-1990s at a special screening of Amy Heckerling’s Clueless, complete with a Q&A and signing with the mastermind behind the film’s iconic fashion looks, costume designer Mona May. A clever teen comedy filled with memorable quotes that transformed high school films and established itself as a pop culture icon, the Los Angeles-set film centers around Cher Horowitz (Alicia Silverstone), a well-intentioned albeit slightly shallow fashion-obsessed Beverly Hills teen. But this queen bee is more than she seems — she’s kind, witty, charming, and smart. Join Cher as she navigates love, friendships, and shopping in her signature carefree style, exuding the breezy confidence of someone who knows her Alaïa from her Calvin. Loosely based on Jane Austen’s Emma and featuring the talents of Paul Rudd, Brittany Murphy, Donald Faison, and Stacey Dash, Clueless continues to entertain viewers even 30 years later!

May — who exploded onto the scene with the film’s release — will sign sketches and discuss her new book, The Fashion of Clueless, during the Q&A event. Books will be available for pre-order. Vogue and The New York Times hailed the film as the “fashion movie of the year,” setting the foundation for a costume design career that includes blockbuster films like Enchanted, The Wedding Singer, Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, Never Been Kissed, Stuart Little 2, The Haunted Mansion, and more. May has collaborated with top Hollywood actors including Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, Adam Sandler, Amy Adams, Paul Rudd, Will Ferrell, and Eddie Murphy. She most recently designed costumes for the upcoming action-thriller Control starring James McAvoy and Julianne Moore. Featuring behind-the-scenes photos, production stills, and intimate chats with key cast and creatives such as Alicia Silverstone and director Amy Heckerling, May’s new book explores how personal style reveals a persona — and includes tips for creating your own main character looks. This compelling and stylish book is perfect for fans of pop culture, fashion, design, and art and is a record of the enduring cultural impact of the film.

Tickets for the film are free for SCAD Card holders; $5 for students, seniors, and military; and $8 for the general public. Note: If you have purchased tickets for the original August date, they will be honored for the updated screening date.
