Brightside Child & Family Advocacy proudly announces the 17th Annual Dancing with Savannah Stars, set to take place on April 11, 2025, at Victory North. This highly anticipated signature fundraising event will bring together community leaders who will take the stage in support of Brightside Advocacy’s mission to provide advocacy and resources for children in foster care.
Brightside Advocacy will kick off the excitement with a Launch Party on January 28, 2025, at 208 Wine Bar, where this year’s dancers will be introduced, and fundraising efforts will officially begin. While the event is closed to the public, media representatives are invited to attend.
The 2025 Dancing with Savannah Stars participants include:
Each Dancing with Savannah Stars participant is committed to raising $15,000, with all proceeds supporting Brightside Advocacy’s three programs. Savannah CASA provides trained volunteers to advocate for children in foster care, ensuring their safety and well-being. Bright House offers a safe, supportive space for supervised visitations and family reunification efforts. Brighter Futures, Brightside’s newest initiative, helps older youth aging out of foster care transition into adulthood through mentorship, life skills training, and housing support. Funds raised will ensure that children, families, and young adults receive the advocacy and resources they need to build stable, thriving futures.
“This event is not only a fun and engaging way for our community to come together, but it also plays a vital role in raising critical funds to support children and families in need,” said Kate Blair, Executive Director of Brightside Advocacy. “We are committed to ensuring that every child has the advocacy, stability, and resources necessary to thrive. Our team works tirelessly to empower volunteers, support families, and create opportunities that lead to brighter futures for those we serve.”

A Jason Isbell record always lands like a decoder ring in the ears and hearts of his audience, a soundtrack to his world and magically to theirs, too. Weathervanes carries the same revelatory power. This is a storyteller at the peak of his craft, observing his fellow wanderers, looking inside and trying to understand, reducing a universe to four minutes. He shrinks life small enough to name the fear and then strip it away, helping his listeners make sense of how two plus two stops equaling four once you reach a certain age—and carry a certain amount of scars. “There is something about boundaries on this record,” Isbell says. “As you mature, you still attempt to keep the ability to love somebody fully and completely while you’re growing into an adult and learning how to love yourself.” Weathervanes is a collection of grown-up songs: Songs about adult love, about change, about the danger of nostalgia and the interrogation of myths, about cruelty and regret and redemption. Life and death songs played for and by grown ass people. Some will make you cry alone in your car and others will make you sing along with thousands of strangers in a big summer pavilion, united in the great miracle of being alive. The record features the rolling thunder of Isbell’s fearsome 400 Unit, who’ve earned a place in the rock ‘n’ roll cosmos alongside the greatest backing ensembles, as powerful and essential to the storytelling as The E Street Band or the Wailers. They make a big noise, as Isbell puts it, and he feels so comfortable letting them be a main prism through which much of the world hears his art. He can be private but with them behind him he transforms, and there is a version of himself that can only exist in their presence. When he plays a solo show, he is in charge of the entire complicated juggle. On stage with the 400 Unit, he can be a guitar hero when he wants, and a conductor when he wants, and a smiling fan of the majesty of his bandmates when he wants to hang back and listen to the sound. The roots of this record go back into the isolation of the pandemic and to Isbell’s recent time on the set as an actor on Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. There were guitars in his trailer and in his rented house and a lot of time to sit and think. The melancholy yet soaring track “King of Oklahoma” was written there. Isbell also watched the great director work, saw the relationship between a clear vision and its execution, and perhaps most important, saw how even someone as decorated as Scorsese sought out and used his co-workers’ opinions. “It definitely helped when I got into the studio,” Isbell says. “I had this reinvigorated sense of collaboration. You can have an idea and you can execute it and not compromise — and still listen to the other people in the room.”

GRAMMY®, CMA and ACM-winning hitmakers Shenandoah, fueled by Marty Raybon’s distinctive vocals and the band’s skilled musicianship, are celebrated for delivering such hits as “Two Dozen Roses”, “Church on Cumberland Road” and “Next to You, Next to Me” as well as such achingly beautiful classics as “I Want to be Loved Like That” and the GRAMMY® winning “Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart” duet with Alison Krauss.
To date, the group has sold millions of albums worldwide and has over 300 million on-demand streams. Raybon and McGuire formed Shenandoah in 1984 in Muscle Shoals, Alabama with bassist Ralph Ezell, keyboardist Stan Thorn and guitarist Jim Seales. Shenandoah inked a deal with Columbia Records and began establishing a national fan base with their self-titled debut in 1987. However, it was the band’s sophomore effort, The Road Not Taken, that spawned their first top ten hits “She Doesn’t Cry Anymore” and “Mama Knows.” Shenandoah followed with three consecutive No. 1 hits “Church on Cumberland Road,” “Sunday in the South” and “Two Dozen Roses.”
“The Church on Cumberland Road” spent two weeks at the top of the chart and made country music history as it marked the first time that a country band’s first No. 1 single spent more than one week at the summit. Shenandoah became known for delivering songs that celebrated the importance of faith and family while reveling in the joys of small-town life. “Next to You, Next to Me” topped the charts for three weeks and “Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart,” a beautiful duet with Alison Krauss, won a Country Music Association Award for Vocal Event of the year and a GRAMMY® for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. Shenandoah also won the Academy of Country Music’s Vocal Group of the Year in 1991.For more information, visit shenandoahband.com

Ships of the Sea will unveil Sea of Ink: Savannah Maritime Tattoos, an extraordinary exhibit showcasing the art and cultural significance of tattoos. Featuring more than a dozen Savannah-area tattoo artists and over 30 maritime tattoo collectors, Sea of Ink highlights tattoos as a meaningful art form and cultural movement.
With one-third of American adults having at least one tattoo, this visual language is rich for exploration. Sea of Ink presents the tattoo not just as body art, but as a powerful instrument for storytelling. Tattoos tell stories that often are deeply meaningful to the collector, and are a result of an artistic understanding between the tattoo creator and the collector.
Experience the Exhibit:
Cultural Insight: Explore tattooing as a visual language and art form.
Artistic Appreciation: Admire the intricate designs and craftsmanship.

On Sunday, April 6, 2025, Jewish Educational Alliance and Savannah Jewish Federation will join Repair the Sea® and Jewish communities around the world for Bedikat HaMayim™ 2025, a global waterfront cleanup inspired by Jewish values.
Bedikat Chametz is a tradition on the night before Passover of searching for any remaining chametz (leavened products such as bread) in the home, and removing it. Bedikat HaMayim™, meaning “searching the waters,” which builds on the success of Reverse Tashlich®®, which began in 2016 at Eckerd College Hillel’s Scubi Jew®. Recognizing the harm caused by human pollution, students questioned the practice of symbolically adding more “sins” to the water. Their solution? Reverse the ritual by removing human “sins” (in the form of trash and debris) from local waterways. And now, Bedikat HaMayim™ aims to remove “shmutz” from our waterways before the Jewish holiday of Passover.
Since 2016, the movement has grown exponentially. In 2024, Reverse Tashlich® was practiced in 20 different countries globally. Rabbi Ed Rosenthal, CEO of Repair the Sea, describes the movement as “a powerful fusion of Jewish tradition and environmental stewardship.” He adds, “Our tradition calls us to protect nature, and Bedikat HaMayim™ is a tangible way to fulfill that responsibility.”
Bedikat HaMayim™ is part of Repair the Sea’s mission to highlight the spiritual wonders of water, promote interfaith cooperation, and address the threats facing aquatic environments.
