​​Ships of the Sea will unveil Sea of Ink: Savannah Maritime Tattoos, an extraordinary exhibit showcasing the art and cultural significance of tattoos. Featuring more than a dozen Savannah-area tattoo artists and over 30 maritime tattoo collectors, Sea of Ink highlights tattoos as a meaningful art form and cultural movement.

With one-third of American adults having at least one tattoo, this visual language is rich for exploration. Sea of Ink presents the tattoo not just as body art, but as a powerful instrument for storytelling. Tattoos tell stories that often are deeply meaningful to the collector, and are a result of an artistic understanding between the tattoo creator and the collector.​​

• Thomas Sanders photographs tattoo collectors, showcasing their maritime tattoos.

• Mike Schalk captures tattoo artists in their creative environments.

Before televisions, computers, and high-speed internet, everyday Americans engaged with image-based storytelling through illustration. Illustration is art created to be reproduced for books, magazines, periodicals, advertisements, and other printed media. Designed covers—based on finished paintings—by artists like Norman Rockwell (1894–1978) regularly reached thousands of homes via mass-produced publications such as “The Saturday Evening Post.” Celebrating the charming, wholesome, and seemingly commonplace, Rockwell enjoyed a successful career, which unfolded against a string of era-defining crises and revolutions, including two World Wars, the Great Depression, struggles over Civil Rights, and space exploration. Through illustration, Rockwell and his peers chronicled the transformation and challenging of ideals in the 20th-century, sometimes using childhood to explore complex subject matter. By tapping into American adults’ nostalgia and their associations of childhood with innocence, these artists made subjects from consumer goods to wartime politics more appealing. Through advertisements and calendar illustrations, magazine covers, and story artwork, ‘Norman Rockwell & Peers: Illustrating Childhood’ regards childhood as an expressive and revealing lens to view an evolving and often complex American society.

This year, we are proud to join Wreaths Across America in ensuring every veteran’s grave at Bonaventure Cemetery receives a wreath. Savannah is home to over 1,300 veterans buried at Bonaventure, and last year, only 400 graves were honored with wreaths. This year, we’re determined to ensure that ALL 1,300 veterans are remembered.

Produced by Family Entertainment Live, “Magic of Lights” will make its debut at SOUTH GEORGIA STATE FAIR in SAVANNAH GA showcasing dozens of displays, festive favorites, and digital animations—all crafted with millions of LED lights to create a memorable holiday experience for the entire family.

For the 2024 season, the brand-new MagicVision Selfie Filters will be unveiled featuring fun filters that will transform your selfies into festive holiday-themed images, perfect for sharing with friends and family.
Other dazzling displays include the 32-foot-tall animated Mattel’s Waving Christmas Barbie®, a Prehistoric Christmas scene with life-sized dinosaurs celebrating the season, and the iconic BIGFOOT® Monster Truck. ‘Cloaked in a Cloud, Disguised in the Sky’
George Clinton is a cultural icon whose contributions to the arts span seven decades. He revolutionized music and performance as the bandleader of Parliament-Funkadelic, collaborating across genres and mediums with outlandish styling, spectacular set designs, and pioneering artistry. While on tour in the 1990s, Clinton began applying his creativity to drawing and painting, developing a surreal, hallucinogenic, maximalist aesthetic that riffs on the characters, mythology, and language of P-Funk. His artistic approach is defined by improvisation, experimentation, and innovation — refusing to be bound by traditional expectations or societal norms. This landmark exhibition focuses on the wildly unconventional works Clinton has made in the years since, showcasing his inventiveness in the context of a fine art museum for the first time. A true visionary, Clinton presents a multidimensional perspective on Black experience in the U.S., inviting us all to enter a world that is fantastical, optimistic, and full of funk. The exhibit is open now through January 27, 2025.

Georgia State Railroad Museum:
In Tricentennial Park, Georgia State Railroad Museum is a beautiful National Historic Landmark located at the old Central of Georgia Railway Savannah Shops and Terminal Facilities. With a fully operational turntable, you have the chance to explore historic railcars, experience the handcar and go on guided tours. Be sure to check out the daily train rides every hour on the hour from 10 a.m. through 3 p.m.

Old Fort Jackson:
Old Fort Jackson is a National Historic Landmark offering daily cannon firings and exciting interactive programs for adults, kids and families. Daily cannon firings occur at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Pin Point Heritage Museum:
Pin Point Heritage Museum is located in the old A.S. Varn & Son Oyster and Crab Factory, experience the Gullah/Geechee culture first hand. For nearly 100 years, the community of Pin Point was quietly isolated on the banks of the Moon River just south of Savannah. Now, you can explore the refurbished museum and experience multimedia presentations, exciting exhibits and unparalleled views of the marsh! Pin Point Heritage Museum will be open Thursday-Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Guided tours will be given throughout the day.

Savannah Children’s Museum:
Located within the Central of Georgia Railway Carpentry Shop, Savannah Children’s Museum features over a dozen exhibits designed to expand the imaginations of children including an exploration maze, a reading nook, and a sensory garden.

Savannah History Museum:
March through history and learn about the American Revolution in Savannah! Experience a black powder demonstration, immerse yourself in 1779 Savannah and hear about the personalities that shaped the city’s fight for freedom. Enjoy enhanced Loyalists & Liberty Battlefield Tours with historical replica swivel gun and musket firings during programs led by costumed interpretive staff and volunteers at Savannah History Museum and Battlefield Park. Tours Saturday at 10:30 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
