SAFE Shelter & 4 the Jewel N U Launch “The Shield DV & Trauma Community Support Group”

SAFE Shelter Center for Domestic Violence Services and 4 the Jewel N U are proud to announce a groundbreaking collaboration: The Shield DV & Trauma Community Support Group—the first safe and confidential community support group in Savannah for individuals currently experiencing or who have previously experienced domestic violence.

“We are proud to offer this new, safe space for survivors to connect, share, and heal,” says Shannon Bates, CEO of Safe Shelter. “Our mission is to ensure that no one has to walk their healing journey alone.” The initiative will provide a supportive, empowering environment for women and men over the age of 30 who have survived domestic violence and trauma. By uniting the resources and expertise of both organizations, the program will expand access to support, foster healing, and create lasting change for survivors in the community.

“This partnership is about more than services—it’s about restoring hope,” said Dr. Karen Alston, CEO of 4 the Jewel N U. “Through compassion, understanding, and community, we are here to help survivors rebuild their lives with dignity and strength.”

The name The Shield stands for Support, Hope, Inspiration, Empowerment, Love, and Dreams—a reflection of the group’s commitment to protecting, uplifting, and inspiring survivors. Guided by a trauma-informed approach, the program will address the unique needs of participants while maintaining strict confidentiality to ensure privacy and trust.
