The Bank of America Museums on Us program offers FREE weekend general admission to Bank of America, Merrill, or Bank of America Private Bank credit and debit cardholders, at 11 cultural attractions throughout Georgia.

For the past 25 years, Bank of America has provided access to some of our nation’s greatest cultural experiences and brought new visitors to our partner museums. Atlanta History Center:
The Atlanta Historical Society was founded in 1926 to preserve and study Atlanta history. In 1990, after decades of collecting, researching, and publishing information about Atlanta and the surrounding area, the organization officially became Atlanta History Center.

What began as a small, archival-focused historical society grew over the decades to encompass 33 acres of curated Goizueta Gardens, four historic houses, varied programming, and a range of signature and temporary exhibitions housed in the Atlanta History Museum.

Center for Civil and Human Rights:
The National Center for Civil and Human Rights is a museum and cultural institution that connects the U.S. Civil Rights Movement to human rights challenges today.

Georgia State Railroad Museum:
Located in Tricentennial Park, Georgia State Railroad Museum is a beautiful National Historic Landmark located at the old Central of Georgia Railway Savannah Shops and Terminal Facilities. With a fully operational turntable, you have the chance to explore historic railcars, experience the handcar, and go on guided tours. High Museum of Art’s: Ancient Nubia: Art of the 25th Dynasty from the Collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
Ancient Nubia: Art of the 25th Dynasty presents two hundred works of art, all from the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, made during the peak of Nubian power. The exhibition features masterpieces that highlight the skill, artistry, and innovation of Napatan makers and reflect the wealth and power of their kings and queens.
Morris Museum of Art: Artrageous! Family Sunday: Plant Swap and Clinic
Bring a plant, take a plant. Bring your seedlings or cuttings to swap. Also bring samples or pictures of your sick houseplants and garden plants to our certified horticulture expert to get a diagnosis and treatment. No plants? No problem! Plant some seeds to take home and enjoy iced coffee and lemonade. Sunday, June 4, 2:00–4:00 p.m.

SCAD Museum of Art: Leung Chi Wo Sara Wong
Leung Chi Wo (b. 1968, Hong Kong) and Sara Wong (b. 1968, Hong Kong) have collaborated since 1992. Leung Chi Wo and Sara Wong explore the anonymity of history by contemplating figures in the background of found snapshots. In their Museum of the Lost series, Leung and Wong re-enact the poses and attire of these unidentified, unaware “minor characters,” producing life-sized photographic prints and crafting accompanying texts that imagine their experiences and personalities. The artists’ exhibition focuses on works made from the photo albums of families in Nagoya, Japan, in which Leung and Wong challenge historical grand narratives and shed light on the poetics of photography.

Old Fort Jackson:
Old Fort Jackson is a National Historic Landmark offering daily cannon firings and exciting interactive programs for adults, kids and families! You can experience unique views of Savannah’s riverfront and walk on the grounds of one of the oldest brick fortifications on the East Coast. Daily cannon firings occur at 11am and 2pm.

Pin Point Heritage Museum:
Pin Point Heritage Museum is located in the old A.S. Varn & Son Oyster and Crab Factory, experience the Gullah/Geechee culture first hand. For nearly 100 years, the community of Pin Point was quietly isolated on the banks of the Moon River just south of Savannah. Now, you can explore the refurbished museum complex and experience multimedia presentations, exciting exhibits and unparalleled views of the marsh!

Savannah Children’s Museum:
Located in Tricentennial Park, Savannah Children’s Museum is the perfect place for families to explore and play! The museum is currently entirely outdoors and located in the old Central of Georgia Railway Carpentry Shop lower level and upper courtyard. The museum features over a dozen exhibits designed to expand the imaginations of children including an exploration maze, a reading nook and a sensory garden.

Savannah History Museum: Loyalists & Liberty Battlefield Tours
March through history and learn about the American Revolution in Savannah! Experience a black powder demonstration, immerse yourself in 1779 Savannah, and hear about the personalities that shaped the city’s fight for freedom.

Loyalists & Liberty Battlefield Tours Friday and Saturday at 10:30am, 12:30pm, 2:30pm.

Tellus Science Museum:
Tellus is a world-class 120,000 square foot museum in Cartersville, Georgia. The museum’s exhibits open minds and ignite a passion for science. Tellus features four main galleries: The Weinman Mineral Gallery, The Fossil Gallery, Science in Motion and The Collins Family My Big Backyard. A 120-seat digital planetarium and an observatory with a state-of-the-art 20-inch telescope is also located at Tellus.

Join Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant in celebrating World Oceans Day at the UGA Marine Education Center and Aquarium on June 10 from 10 – 2 p.m. Throughout the day, we will be celebrating oysters, an important coastal habitat that provides a wealth of benefits to marine life and coastal communities.

As part of the celebration, we will debut a special art exhibition at the aquarium, “SUBMERGED: An Underwater Exhibition of Bioceramic Artwork,” that will feature pieces created by Assistant Professor Casey Schachner, a 2022 Georgia Sea Grant Artists, Writers, Scholar’s award recipient, and her students at Georgia Southern University Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art. The sculptures are made from a native algae material, and they will be displayed in the aquarium’s 16 exhibit tanks. During the event, some of the artists will be on hand to talk about the inspiration behind their artwork, which will eventually be placed in the Skidaway River behind the aquarium with the goal of forming new oyster reefs.

In addition to viewing the exhibition, staff at our Shellfish Research Lab, who specialize in oyster aquaculture and reef restoration, will be offering oyster-themed activities for people of all ages.

World Oceans Day is a FREE event for all visitors and registration is not required. All activities will take place between 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. However, the aquarium will remain open until 5 p.m.

Event Details

Commercial fishing has deep cultural ties to the Georgia coast, particularly the shrimping industry, which is the state’s largest and most economically valuable fishery. Shrimping has played an integral role in shaping the identities of the commercial fishermen who have spent most of their lives on the water. At the heart of these identities are the fishing boats that have carried captains and their crew for decades.

Learn about a collaborative project between Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant’s Associate Director of Extension Bryan Fluech and Georgia Southern University’s Jennifer Sweeney Tooks to record the stories and experiences of local shrimpers and their boats. These recordings powerfully preserve the voice and culture of commercial fishing for current and future generations, while also creating a database of knowledge that can be used to guide science and regulatory decisions.

This program is offered as part of Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant’s Saltwater Science Speaker Series at the UGA Aquarium. The series highlights impactful work by faculty and collaborators who are studying coastal issues and working with coastal communities.

Cost: $10. Registration is required for the event and includes admission to the UGA Aquarium.

Harmful algal blooms (HABs) threaten human and ecosystem health along the southeastern U.S., yet monitoring efforts in Georgia lag behind those of adjacent states, likely resulting in an underestimation of their prevalence in our coastal waters. Mallory Mintz, a master’s student at UGA Skidaway Institute of Oceanography, will discuss her research on HAB species in the Skidaway River Estuary. Her project aims to measure the densities of HAB species over a two-year period, establish their seasonal timing, and explore their relationship with water quality parameters in the estuary.

Mintz will be joined by long-time Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant volunteer, Sandy Hager, who will talk about the Phytoplankton Monitoring Network and her experience as a citizen scientist monitoring phytoplankton in the Skidaway River.

Cost: $10. Registration is required for the event and includes admission to the UGA Aquarium.
