​​Ships of the Sea will unveil Sea of Ink: Savannah Maritime Tattoos, an extraordinary exhibit showcasing the art and cultural significance of tattoos. Featuring more than a dozen Savannah-area tattoo artists and over 30 maritime tattoo collectors, Sea of Ink highlights tattoos as a meaningful art form and cultural movement.

With one-third of American adults having at least one tattoo, this visual language is rich for exploration. Sea of Ink presents the tattoo not just as body art, but as a powerful instrument for storytelling. Tattoos tell stories that often are deeply meaningful to the collector, and are a result of an artistic understanding between the tattoo creator and the collector.​​

Savannah-based photographers Thomas Sanders and Mike Schalk bring the exhibit to life:

• Thomas Sanders photographs tattoo collectors, showcasing their maritime tattoos.

• Mike Schalk captures tattoo artists in their creative environments.

Telfair Museums presents a solo exhibition of iconic digital art by Jim Campbell (b. 1956), whose light-based works explore the limits of human perception. Holding degrees in electrical engineering and mathematics from MIT, along with patents for his work in development of high-definition video, Campbell is widely known for his low-resolution moving images created by arrays of LEDS. This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to the San Francisco-based artist’s works in the Southeast and will coincide with Telfair’s 2025 PULSE Art Technology Festival.

‘Venice and the Ottoman Empire’ brings more than 100 artworks from Venice’s largest and oldest museums to Telfair for a rare glimpse into this intriguing center of exchange. It features paintings, costume, textiles, leatherwork, metalwork, and ceramics from the 15th through 18th centuries that are not often exhibited outside of Italy, including works recovered from a shipwreck. Visitors also will learn about how these historical designs inspired 20th-century textile and fashion designer Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo to create the luminous fabrics that are still manufactured in Venice and prized by connoisseurs today.

“Surroundings, Daydreaming in the Chaos” by Lisa D. Watson is an artistic journey that deepens our understanding of structures, landscapes, and the narratives of all things—animal, mineral, or plant—that call the land home and strive to safeguard wild spaces in their unique settings. Watson utilizes mixed-media collage, paintings, installations, and ceramic sculpture to portray her perceptions. Lesser-known places are depicted in the exhibit which are infused with daydreams of achieving balance between man-made infrastructure and the wilderness. These imaginative transformations convey a longing for environmental harmony and a vision for positive change.

The Savannah Performing Arts Festival will bring the thrill of performance to vibrant life at the Ben Tucker Theater in the Savannah Cultural Arts Center, located at 201 Montgomery St, Savannah, GA 31401, on February 10 to February 22, 2025. Support Heart Health and Community Wellness at the Second Annual “Have a Heart Ball”!

Join us on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the historic Beach Institute in Savannah for a night of elegance, impact, and celebration. Hosted by First Bryan Baptist Church, the “Have a Heart Ball” is a signature event held during Heart Health Month to raise awareness and critical funds for programs promoting health equity and heart wellness in our community.

This year’s theme, “Heart of the Community: Championing Health and Hope,” highlights the importance of addressing these health disparities and creating lasting change for underserved populations. The evening will feature a formal dinner, live entertainment, inspiring stories from local health advocates, and fundraising activities to support heart health education and resources.

The Keynote Speaker for this event if Dr. Otis S. Johnson, the former two-time mayor of Savannah.

A 75-minute experience providing an overview of what Madeira wine is and its connection with Savannah.

It introduces the unique and flavorful fortified wine as it intertwines with the history of Savannah, as a port city and a center of hospitality. Mid and late 19th century Savannahians, Ward McAllister and William Neyle Habersham, will be linked to Madeira and Madeira parties. McAllister, who with Mrs. Astor became the arbiters of NY society said, “In Savannah and Charleston, from 1800 up to the Civil War, afternoon wine parties were the custom.”
