Union Mission’s Day Center at Grace House will be Open this Weekend to Accommodate Homeless Individuals During Extreme Heat

Union Mission’s Day Center at Grace House will be open for extra days over the weekend to accommodate those who need shelter and food during extreme summer temperatures. The Day Center at Grace House, located at 120 Fahm Street, will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm offering breakfast, lunch, and snacks to those in need.

“Union Mission sees the critical need for a place to go for the homeless population during high temperatures. We are pleased to rise to the occasion by opening our Day Center during the weekend,” said Michael Traynor, President & CEO. “We are thankful for the dedication of our staff and partners in being able to provide this needed service.”

Union Mission’s Day Center at Grace House provides homeless individuals on the streets and squares with basic needs such as food, clothing, referrals, access to supportive services, and shelter from weather conditions. This program serves on average, 60-70 unsheltered individuals each day and is regularly open 5 days a week from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm. In addition to basic needs and wrap-around services, this program creates opportunities to initiate and build the relationships necessary to motivate individuals to access more intensive programs.

In partnership with the City of Savannah, this program has served 362 unduplicated individuals in the first seven months of operation.

Donations are welcome. Individuals interested in supporting this program are encouraged to provide plastic cups, utensils and plates, napkins, and bottled water that can be dropped off at Grace House this weekend between 9:00 am – 3:30 pm.
