Larry Keel Experience
Larry Keel is an award-winning innovative flat picking guitarist and singer/songwriter hailing from Appalachia and currently residing in historic Lexington, VA. Raised in a musical family steeped in the mountain culture of the region, Keel began from an early age to forge a distinctive sound, taking bluegrass and classic country music and infusing those styles with a rock edge and elements of improvisational jazz.
With the acoustic guitar Keel has brought the flatpicking form to its highest level of sophistication and sonic power, delivered by his muscular yet refined style of playing. As a songwriter with a catalog of nearly 100 original compositions, Keel integrates raw honesty and charming grit to create songs filled with reality, imagination, imagery and mood. He has appeared on over 20 albums, 12 of which he produced, and has written songs that have been recorded and performed by distinguished artists including Grammy-award winners Del McCoury and The Infamous Stringdusters.
He has performed at some of the greatest venues including Tokyo Disney, Carnegie Hall, Town Hall NYC, Red Rocks Amphitheater, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, LOCKN, High Sierra Music, Bonnaroo, Del Fest, Hulaween, and countless more. He has inspired and merged creative forces with some of the greatest artists in modern roots music such as Tyler Childers, Billy Strings, Greensky Bluegrass, Keller Williams, Tony Rice and Sam Bush, to name a few. Keel has been revered by critics at Relix, JamBase, Bluegrass Today, No Depression, AXS, and Rolling Stone, who dubbed him “one of the finest flat pickers around” and described his unparalleled live performance “taking songs up a notch with psychedelic hillbilly shredding.” C-ville Weekly claims “Keel is doing for bluegrass what Hendrix did for rock, what Miles did for jazz- exploring the uncharted possibilities, defying the limitations of a deeply established musical form.”

Songs from the Road
Songs From The Road Band is an award winning Asheville, North Carolina based bluegrass band featuring Mark Schimick (mandolin), Charles Humphrey III (bass), Sam Wharton (guitar), James Schlender (fiddle), and Gabe Epstein (banjo). Their most recent single ‘Outside Of Omaha’ went to number one on the Bluegrass Today Grassicana chart. They have 6 studios albums available at all musical outlets.
Holler Choir
Led by the lyrical craftsmanship of singer, guitarist, and songwriter Clint Roberts, the distinctly Appalachian, old-time sound of Asheville’s Holler Choir combines haunting harmonies, stirring string compositions, and heart-wrenching ballads, yet hardly conforms to a stereotypical genre. Call it a confluence of old-time, Americana, and bluegrass, but, by its own exceptional design, the sound and atmosphere of Holler Choir are singular. Robert’s wordcraft and explosive vocal range is met with the dulcet clawhammer banjo plucking of long-time collaborator Helena Rose and the sturdy timekeeping of upright bassist Norbert McGettigan. With a rotating cast of gifted musicians featured on Holler Choir’s recordings and electrifying live performances, it’s no wonder they are the band to watch in 2023.
The band’s inception began when recording Robert’s 2022 solo release, entitled “Mountain Air”. That fortuitous collaboration of gifted roots musicians at Asheville’s Crossroads Studios proved to be the genesis of an unmistakable new sound built on that shared experience. Produced by Grammy award-winning multi-instrumentalist, Michael Ashworth, of The Steep Canyon Rangers, the five-song EP lit the fuse and Holler Choir was well on its way to delight audiences throughout the southeast and beyond.
For their debut full-length record, “Songs Before They Write Themselves,” Holler Choir again teamed up with producer Michael Ashworth. Set for release in summer of 2023, the album was tracked in the historic Echo Mountain Studio’s church room and boasts the engineering prowess of Jason Richmond (Avett Brothers, Rising Appalachia), and was mastered by Grammy Award-winning engineer, Kim Rosen.
According to Roberts “Holler Choir” could be a double entendre. A choir that hollers, or a choir from the hollers of western North Carolina. What their sound and vision exude leaves the meaning up to you.
The Well Drinkers
The Well Drinkers are a progressive, original bluegrass band based out of Western North Carolina, whose range extends to festivals and venues across the United States, Canada, and the UK. The Well Drinkers have shared the stage with the likes of Molly Tuttle, Ketch Secore (Old Crow Medicine Show), Town Mountain, Songs from the Road Band, Chatham County Line, Balsam Range, and many more. They are a consistent force in the Western North Carolina bluegrass scene.
Since the band’s creation in 2019, the group has striven to combine the traditional roots of their Appalachian region with progressive instrumentation, songwriting, and subject matter. The group doesn’t shy away from the opportunity to bring experimental jams, jazz, Cajun, classical, and reggae into their live performances
The Grass is Dead
It is well known that roots music is passed down from generation to generation. From grandparents to parents and from parents to their children. The inevitable collision between the traditional past and the enormous catalogue of modern music, both spiritual and psychedelic, is the fertile plain that sprouted the roots of The Grass Is Dead. Initially formed as an acoustic offshoot of one of the country’s most beloved GD tribute bands, Crazy Fingers, The Grass Is Dead has evolved over the past ten years into a juggernaut of sound and a festival favorite up and down the east coast, to Colorado and back. Their live performances bring into view a traditional sensibility of bluegrass, swing, and folk music launched directly onto a psychedelic paintbrush of modern influences, most importantly, the music of the Grateful Dead. Captivating audiences with their unique interpretations and thoughtful arrangements of songs by the GD, Jerry Garcia, and many others, as well as their extensive file of traditional roots music at their command, The Grass Is Dead are very much alive and well, rocking out and and picking their way across this great country.
Reed River String Band
Like the river flowing through their hometown of Greenville, South Carolina, Reedy River String Band carves a lively channel through progressive newgrass, just downstream from the headwaters of traditional bluegrass. On the heels of their second European tour, the band flew home to a run of US shows and festivals, returning to the Earl Scruggs Music Festival and debuting at the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion in support of their new full-length release, Woodland Drifters.
The new release boasts 14 songs: 13 originals and a surprising take on Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb.” All three members—Sterling Waite (multi-instrumentalist), Rush Morgan (guitar), and Mark Dye (upright bass)—contribute as songwriters and lead singers. Acoustic masters, like IBMA-winner Scott Vestal (banjo), Zach Carter (banjo), and Adam Bachman (dobro), lend their talents to expand the core trio’s sonic palette and directional stylings. These guest musicians further elevate Woodland Drifters into a spirited, genre-blending release spotlighting the foot-stomping, good-time festival vibes Reedy River String Band is known for.
The band is planning a third European tour in June 2026 and a run of shows in Colorado in October. Reedy River String Band is looking forward to continued studio and live collaborations—so stay tuned!

Throughout her storied career, actress Glenn Close has collaborated closely with costume designers to help bring the characters she embodies to life. Inspired by the creativity and craftsmanship she saw in her film and theater productions, she began collecting and preserving costumes and accessories from her projects after her first movie, The World According to Garp (1982). In 2017, she donated her over 800-piece collection to the Elizabeth Sage Historic Costume Collection in the School of Art, Architecture Design at Indiana University.
First presented at the Eskenazi Museum of Art at Indiana University in 2020, The Art of the Character: Highlights from the Glenn Close Costume Collection will offer visitors a unique opportunity to thoroughly explore the careful consideration and exacting details that teams of designers, drapers, and other craftspeople created in over 50 ensembles and numerous examples of jewelry, shoes, and other accessories. It will feature the work of award-winning costume designers, including Anthony Powell (1935–2021), Ann Roth (b. 1949), James Acheson (b. 1946), and Alexandra Byrne (b. 1962), and costumers like Barbara Matera Ltd (active 1968–2001), from 14 of Close’s best-loved movies.
This exhibition is organized by Telfair Museums in partnership with the Elizabeth Sage Historic Costume Collection at the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture, and Design of Indiana University.

Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum—an acclaimed museum dedicated to celebrating and preserving America’s maritime legacy—is delighted to present “Beyond the Plate: Sea and Sky,” an exciting new solo exhibition
Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum—an acclaimed museum dedicated to celebrating and preserving America’s maritime legacy—is delighted to present “Beyond the Plate: Sea and Sky,” an exciting new solo exhibition featuring nautical-inspired, mixed-media art by Rob Strati, from September 25, 2025 through April 12, 2026.
“Beyond the Plate” will showcase new work by one of America’s hottest contemporary artists. Strati has recently enjoyed sold-out exhibits at Duane Reed Gallery in St. Louis and FREMIN Gallery in New York and has sold work to top international art collectors in New York, London, Hong Kong, Dubai and beyond. Strati’s art incorporates broken porcelain plates that have been embellished and adorned with creative details. The exhibition features the artist’s latest bold, kinetic mixed-media works and limited-edition prints as well as an ambitious site-specific installation that will be suspended from the ceiling of the Ships of the Sea atrium.
Strati’s latest series was inspired by a porcelain plate from his wife’s late mother, which accidentally fell and broke into fragments. In order to preserve the shards of the shattered plate, and the memory of someone vitally important to both him and his wife, the artist began working on his “Fragmented” series, using pen and paper to “explore the possibilities of things broken and the stories that can evolve from the pieces left behind.”
Each piece of Strati’s art starts with the breaking of a porcelain plate and takes approximately two weeks to complete. Although the artist is rigorous about his creative process, he always allows space for spontaneous ideas to emerge from the fragments. Over time, he has learned important lessons about art and life by creating new works of art from broken shards.
Strati describes his work as a “mix of chaos and control” that is constantly evolving. He hopes his upcoming exhibition at Ships of the Sea will inspire visitors to think about time, creativity and beauty in fresh, new ways. All of the art in “Beyond the Plate” will be available for purchase, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum.
ABOUT ROBERT STRATI: Originally from Boston, Strati grew up in Columbus, Ohio and earned a B.A. in History of Art from Ohio State University. His art has been exhibited at leading international museums and art galleries and has been featured in The Art Newspaper, Whitehot Magazine, Reclaim, Beaux Arts, Sculpture Magazine, Vice and The Village Voice. Strati’s work and “Beyond the Plate” will also be featured in ARTS Southeast’s fall issue of IMPACT Magazine in October 2025.

This exhibition will mainly cover agricultural practices and beliefs in Burkina Faso and Mali, which are within the savanna and forest areas of the Western Sudan region (South Saharan). Most of these lands can be difficult to cultivate, to control, so the farmers in these regions have to continuously strike a bargain with the spirits of the uncultivated terrain. This happens through unique festivals, ceremonies, and agricultural societies, which will be the topic of this exhibition.
The wilderness is significant in many African cosmologies because it is the inverse of culture – so by describing its characteristics, the ideal characteristics of African society can be defined. Many communities are organized into three realms, the spiritual, the physical, and the in-between. The physical realm is the controllable realm – it is orderly, governed by laws, and includes cultivated fields and domesticated animals. The wilderness is beyond human control so it is unpredictable, potentially dangerous, but there are powers to be harnessed as it can also be a source of medicine, sustenance, and wisdom. This exhibition will present a brief overview of the beliefs associated with the wilderness and the agricultural practices that follow, to show how these concepts translated into social experiences and visible form through selected artifacts from the Savannah African Art Museum.

Wander through seven candy-themed locations filled with pink-on-pink décor and larger-than-life sweets. Along the way, you’ll find a real cotton candy machine spinning fresh clouds of sugar, sprinkles raining down overhead, and gummy bears galore. A playful game-board-style menu guides your journey, encouraging you to explore each stop as you go.
Each candy-themed stop also connects to a signature cocktail featured on the menu, and for those who want to get hands-on, Sweet Tooth offers a guided cocktail class experience. Held Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 5–6 PM before opening, guests will be paired off and learn to craft two of our most creative menu cocktails. The experience includes exclusive early access to the space, plus a snack board to enjoy while you mix, sip, and play.
Please Note: This experience is 21+ only. Cocktails contain dairy and nuts and cannot be modified. Mocktails substitutions are not available for this class. Experience the unique and flavorful fortified wine and hear how it intertwines with the history of Savannah, as a port city and a center of hospitality. Mid and late 19th century Savannahians, Ward McAllister* and William Neyle Habersham, will be linked to Madeira and Madeira parties.
*McAllister, who with Mrs. Astor, became the arbiters of NY society said, “In Savannah and Charleston, from 1800 up to the Civil War, afternoon wine [Madeira] parties were the custom.”
The program is a 75-minute experience that provides an overview of what Madeira wine is and its connection with Savannah.
Participants should be able to stand as well as walk up and down stairs.

Bring your own creative supplies that you can transport without assistance. This is a “no agenda” walking day on Ossabaw Island’s North End. Due to the rehabilitation project the Torrey-West house is not a part of this trip.
What to bring:
• Lunches and beverage.
• Filled and refillable water bottles.
• All of your own creative materials. (You must be able to carry all your gear without assistance.)
About the day: Travel through the Moon River District by boat and across Ossabaw Sound to the North End of Ossabaw Island.
An Ossabaw Island visit includes excellent art-making inspiration: lush maritime forests and marsh wetlands, 19th- and 20th-century historic buildings, and possible sightings of a variety of wildlife including wading birds and feral hogs, as well as free-roaming domesticated donkeys, and perhaps an alligator. Take short hikes on forest and marsh-side trails.
All Ossabaw Island trips will be conducted in accordance with health and safety regulations in effect in Georgia and Chatham County at the time of the trip.
About a week before the trip, all registered will receive an email with specific information about the day, including a virtual release/hold harmless form required to be completed by each person who is attending.

ABOUT FORT MCALLISTER STATE HISTORIC PARK:
Located close to I-95 south of Savannah on the banks of the Ogeechee River, this scenic park showcases the best-preserved earthwork fortification of the Confederacy. The earthworks were attacked seven times by Union ironclads but did not fall until 1864—ending General William T. Sherman’s “March to the Sea.” Visitors can explore the grounds with cannons, a hot shot furnace, bombproof barracks, palisades and more, while a Civil War museum contains artifacts, a video and gift shop.
Nestled among giant live oaks, Spanish moss and salt marsh, this park is a beautiful location for camping, fishing, boating and picnicking. Seven cabins sit on stilts near the marsh, surrounded by palm trees and palmettos. The shaded campground is bordered by tidal Redbird Creek, a boat ramp, fishing dock and nature trail. A large picnic area offers river views and playgrounds, while another boat ramp provides access to the Ogeechee River.

At the Pin Point Heritage Museum located in the old A.S. Varn & Son Oyster and Crab Factory, visitors can experience the Gullah/Geechee culture first hand. For nearly 100 years, the community of Pin Point was quietly isolated on the banks of the Moon River just south of Savannah. Now, you can explore the refurbished museum complex and experience multimedia presentations, exciting exhibits, and unparalleled views of the marsh!
Savannah Children’s Museum:
Located within the Central of Georgia Railway Carpentry Shop, Savannah Children’s Museum features over a dozen exhibits designed to expand the imaginations of children including an exploration maze, a reading nook, and a sensory garden.
Savannah History Museum:
March through history and learn about the American Revolution in Savannah. Experience a black powder demonstration, immerse yourself in 1779 Savannah, and hear about the personalities who shaped the city’s history. Enjoy enhanced Loyalists & Liberty Battlefield Tours with historical replica swivel gun and musket firings during programs led by costumed interpretive staff and volunteers at Savannah History Museum and Battlefield Park. SCAD Museum of Art:
Visit the group exhibition In Character as it explores how contemporary artists draw from the visual aesthetics of animation, illustration, and sequential art to unpack notions of identity, imagine alternate realities, and depict Black life and community. Across the featured paintings, drawings, sculptures, and textile works, the distinctive language of cartoons and comics emerges through flat, outlined forms, shallow picture planes, and exaggerated bodily features.

About the Book
Winner of 20 national book awards, Shot Down! is set within the framework of World War II in Europe and recounts the dramatic experiences of each member of a ten man B-17 bomber crew after their plane, piloted by the author’s father, was knocked out of the sky by German fighters over the French/Belgian border on February 8,1944.
Some men died. Some were captured and became prisoners of war. Some men evaded capture and were missing in action for months before making it back to England. Their individual stories and those of the courageous Belgian people who risked their lives to help them are all different and are all remarkable.
Even before the dramatic battle in the air and the subsequent harrowing events on the ground, the story is informative, insightful, and captivating. Prior to the fateful event, the book covers the crew’s training, their journey to England, what life was like on base as well as in London and the English countryside, and the perils of flying combat missions over occupied Europe and Germany.
Through personal letters, oral and written accounts, declassified military documents, and interviews – all from people who took part in the events that happened over 70 years ago (even the German Luftwaffe pilot who shot down the Susan Ruth) – the stories come alive. Adding to the feeling of “being there”, are more than 200 period photographs interspersed throughout the book.
To add background and context, many historical facts and anecdotes about and surrounding World War II are entwined throughout the book so that the reader has a feel for and understanding of what was occurring on a broader scale. SHOT DOWN is an account about brave individuals, featuring pilot Howard Snyder, set within the compelling events of the greatest conflict in world history.
About the Speaker
A graduate of UCLA, Steve Snyder lives in Seal Beach, California. In 2009, he retired from Vision Service Plan (VSP) after a 36-year career working in sales and sales management. He then began his quest to learn more about the World War II experiences of his father, pilot Howard Snyder, and the crew of the B-17 Susan Ruth. It became his passion, and after 4 ½ years of dedicated research, resulted in his book, SHOT DOWN, which has received 25 book awards. Steve is president of the 306th Bomb Group Historical Association and on the board of directors of the 8th Air Force Historical Society. He keeps very busy making PowerPoint presentations to all types of organizations and attending air shows around the country signing copies of his book.
