Georgia Tech-Savannah is set to host a “Learners and Leaders” breakfast series on Thursday, November 21st about the benefits of hiring veterans and how you, as an employer, can help them find meaningful work. Attendees will learn, from a panel of experts, what it takes to expand their workforce, and where to start when looking to hire veterans.
Panelists will share the challenges facing veterans, workforce resources available to help employers and transitioning service members, as well as trends and policies with the Department of Labor and the Department of Defense. The panel will also consist of success stories from employers and graduates of the VET² (Veterans Education Training and Transition) program. They’ll be on hand to provide valuable information about how the program helped them make the transition from military careers to civilian ones.
“Over the next few years, as many as 60,000 military members are expected to return to Georgia. Hiring a veteran addresses the workforce needs in our region and across the state,” said Dr. James Wilburn, Director for Military Academic Programs for Georgia Tech Professional Education. “Veterans bring a new perspective to the workforce. We have seen, through our VET² Veterans Education Training and Transition program, that they can enter with identifiable and transferable skills proven in real-world situations.”
The discussion, which will include remarks followed by questions from the audience, will take place on the Georgia Tech-Savannah campus at 210 Technology Circle. Breakfast and networking will begin at 7:30 a.m.; the program will run 8-9:30 a.m. Cost, including breakfast, is $15.
Georgia Tech-Savannah’s Learners and Leaders series is an effort launched in 2014 to help companies in the coastal region stay current. To date, members of the coastal community have heard speakers on topics of relevance to the business community, including technology, innovation, sustainability challenges and solutions for port regions, safety management and its impact to your bottom line, and to how to groom your company’s next leadership team.
