Event Details
The Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home is pleased to present a screening of Flannery, an award-winning documentary that explores the life and work of the iconic Southern Gothic writer, Flannery O’Connor, followed by a Q&A with the film’s co-director, Elizabeth Coffman, and producer, Ted Hardin, on Sunday, October 20th at 6:30 p.m. at the Tybee Post Theater. The evening will kick off at 5 p.m. with an exclusive “peacocktail” party at a historic home on Tybee, where guests will have the opportunity to mingle with Coffman and Hardin in an intimate setting.
Flannery is the winner of the first-ever Library of Congress / Lavine / Ken Burns Prize for Film and takes an intimate look at O’Connor’s life, with her family home at Andalusia in Milledgeville, Ga., serving as the backdrop. Through never-before-seen archival footage, personal letters, and O’Connor’s own words, the film captures the essence of a writer whose starkly redemptive style continues to inspire artists and activists alike. Featuring insights from Mary Karr, Tommy Lee Jones, Hilton Als, and more, and narrated by Mary Steenburgen, this is a film no literary fan should miss. After the film, stay for a Q&A with Director Elizabeth Coffman and Producer Ted Hardin to delve deeper into the making of this extraordinary documentary.
