Ayo Ngozi is a tenant farmer, a lifetime home gardener, and a community herbalist. She is a graduate of the Maryland University of Integrative Health and is on the faculty of several herbal schools and programs, including the Vermont Center for Integrative Herbalism (VT), Wild Ginger Community Herb Center (MD and Costa Rica), and Seed, Soil Spirit School (Toronto, ON). Ayo is currently developing Brickyard Gardens, a nonprofit teaching farm in Garden City. You can find her on Instagram at @ayo.herbalist and @brickyardgardens.savannah.

Join us for this hands-on experience outdoors at Tasty Farms, our experimental farm located right beside the shop at 4107 8th Street, Suite C, Garden City (next to the Savannah State Farmer’s Market.). Please dress accordingly.

Estimated class time is 2 hours. Afterwards, feel free to shop for seeds and supplies to start your medicinal gardening journey.

Event Details

Writer’s block plagues every poet, novelist, and composer- no matter if they’re a novice or seasoned veteran. These writers and composers have surpassed this boundary and have created spectacular works. Unfortunately, this recital is not nearly long enough to encompass all of the literary works out there! Instead, this performance will focus on a sampling of American, English, Scottish, French, and German literature during the 19th century. Literary writers include: Walt Whitman, Robert Louis Stevenson, John Henry Mackay, Heinrich Hart, Thekla Lingen, Paul Heyse, Gustav Mahler, Fiona MacLeod, Richard Wagner, George Crabbe, and Victor Hugo. Richard Strauss, Joseph Marx, Gustav Mahler, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Charles Griffes, and Kurt Weill composed some of these works as arts songs an lieder (German art songs). Richard Wagner and Benjamin Britten have taken their chosen literature and turned them into full operatic works, of which one aria from each will be performed. Lastly, Alan Menken, inspired by Hugo’s beloved novel, wrote the music for Disney’s telling of Hunchback of Notre Dame, which includes Quasimodo’s “Out There.”

The Forsyth Farmers’ Market will celebrate 15 years of supporting local farmers, strengthening Savannah’s food system and expanding access to fresh, locally grown food at a special Farm-R-Que event. This family-friendly celebration is open to the public.

Grilled barbecue will be served along with delectable side dishes that showcase Savannah’s vibrant agricultural and culinary scene. Additional event highlights include live music by local funk band Nickel Bag of Funk and fun kids activities.

All Farm-R-Que proceeds benefit local farmers and Forsyth Farmers’ Market’s programming, including 912 Food Farmacy, Farm Truck 912, Harvest to Table and Forsyth Family Farm Share. These community-focused initiatives are designed to promote food access, sustainability and health equity in the greater Savannah area.

Event Details

Historic Savannah Foundation (HSF) – the leading nonprofit cultural institution dedicated to saving the buildings, places and stories that define Savannah’s past, present and future – will celebrate the pinnacle of preservation at the 2024 HSF Preservation Awards. At this special awards ceremony, Historic Savannah Foundation will recognize projects, individuals, organizations and companies exemplifying excellence in preservation in Savannah and Chatham County.

The winners of these prestigious awards are selected from nominations of projects that were completed within the past three years and fall within at least one of several categories: restoration, rehabilitation, new construction, stewardship, craftsmanship or archaeology. A jury of local professionals in architecture, preservation, academia and urban planning selects the projects that represent the pinnacle of preservation to be honored at Savannah’s premier National Preservation Month event.

The 2024 HSF Preservation Awards event is open to the public and will feature the Big Bon Bodega Pizza Truck, beer and wine. Attendees are invited to wear casual attire and to enjoy delicious food and great company.

The Olde Pink House and Park Place Outreach, Inc. are partnering to host Savannah’s Premier Kentucky Derby Party to support programming for homeless, runaway and at-risk youth in the Savannah community. Attendees will have the opportunity to watch the 150th Kentucky Derby via livestream at Savannah’s must-attend Derby Party while enjoying unlimited Pink House cuisine and cocktails, including Woodford Reserve Mint Juleps and Casa Herradura Margaritas.

Olde Pink House Executive Chef Vincent Burns and his accomplished culinary team will prepare a wide range of Derby-themed culinary delights, including Braised Beef Short Ribs, Kentucky Hot Brown Sandwiches, Baby Back Ribs, Deviled Eggs, Chicken and Shrimp Tacos, Cucumber Tea Sandwiches and Banana Pudding.

The Olde Pink House will also host competitions for Best Bow Tie, Best Hat/Fascinator and Overall Best Dressed, awarding special prizes in each category. Live music will be provided by The Fractions, a popular local band performing original material as well as rock classics, pop and country.

Guests are invited to participate in a silent auction featuring a three-day, two-night trip to the award-winning Woodford Reserve distillery in Versailles, Kentucky as well as a private barrel selection. In addition, a special raffle will offer a range of items, including a signature Pink House spirits basket, Woodford Reserve golf bag and round of golf at Savannah Quarters Country Club.

Proceeds from Savannah’s Premier Kentucky Derby Party will benefit Park Place Outreach’s programming to support at-risk youth in the Savannah area. Services include emergency shelter, transitional living, crisis intervention, family preservation, and homelessness diversion services. Must be 21 to attend this event.

Mary Morrison is receiving the Legacy of Leadership Award – our exclusive award for Girl Scouts that honors a woman who reflects the values in the Girl Scout Promise and Law and who serves as an excellent role model for girls. Girl Scout alum, Dr. Denise Watts, SCCPSS Superintendent of Schools, will serve as the keynote speaker, an example of the present day leaders in Savannah. Current Girl Scout, Ella S., will be recognized as our Young Leader, due to her hard work in helping shape the next generation of leaders though the Girl Scouts program.
